SLOTHIFY YOUR LIFE!
Hello comrades!
This blog isn’t
about the review of The Little Book of Sloth Philosophy by Jennifer McCartney
but actually, it’s inspired by that. Why I’m not just writing the review? No,
because I’ve already finished this book a long time ago and I’ve little much
forgotten about its content. So, maybe we can start?
According
Wikipedia (I’m sorry for taking the source from Wikipedia because this web is really the simplest way to get short-view information), sloth is a group of
arboreal Neotropical xenarthran mammals, constituting the suborder Folivora.
Noted for their slowness of movement, they spend most of their lives hanging
upside down in the trees of the tropical rainforest of South America and
Central America. They are considered to be the most closely related to
anteaters, together making up the xenarthran order Pilosa.
Honestly from the description above, I’m not too understand because some information using biological terms. What I really know is, sloths are a kind of mammal that have very very slow in their motion and movement. This is so interesting because a lot of us just know that the slowest animal is the turtle—actually turtle is not that slow. (Now I’ve just shocked because the word “sloth” equals with “laziness”).
So, what are the unique sides of sloths besides their slowness? Of course, we are going to talk about it.
Slow living is
what we can learn from sloth. In this super modern era, all of us like in a competition
to one another which one the faster, the fastest. We think that fast is good,
best, and win. Absolutely that’s not true, cause maybe we are faster than
others, but so many cases said that people who always looking the world as a competitive
arena can be stressed and depressed. Why? Comrades, we will never get any
ending from comparing ourselves to others. After the sky, there is still a sky and skies.
Comparison
make us can feel so stress, even though we already knew that every person has
their own way in this life. Okay, I can’t deny that human is very abstract
creature—exactly at their mind and soul. Perhaps we already know the facts, however, we still do the same perspectives. Do you know what I mean?
So, what the
meaning of slow-living? Is that mean laziness? Nope—maybe. Slow living means that we
going to a little bit slow to cope our days and try to enjoy the time. Slow
living taking first to balance life—we work in balance and rest in balance.
Taking enough and much rest doesn’t mean that we are not productive. I’m not
going to lie that maybe we really not too productive (like the others) when
taking enough rest for balancing life, but the important thing is our mental
health, right? What for this life if we are not enjoying it? Like an empty
boring room with no artistic ceramics.
Next, sloth is
silent creatures. Maybe we can adopt this silent in our live because this world
super duper crowd and we can’t control it. How to start it? Being alone in the
room or just sit in silence. We also can go out to the forest or park that not too
crowd to make us more feeling peace. We also can doing a meditation like Samatha Bavvana or something like that.
During
meditation or silent in silence, we can think again about this world. What our
purpose? What kind of happiness that really we want? What the next? We can
daydreaming of it, imagining the whole thing about the future, taking slow breathing,
and yeah—slothify our life!
Because really, what’s the hurry?
